Migration to the Greenlake Cloud Platform
Updated over a month ago

User Experience Insight (UXI) stand-alone dashboards can now be migrated to the HPE Greenlake Cloud Platform (GLP). With UXI on the Greenlake Cloud Platform, you can access your UXI dashboard, assign users, add or remove sensors, and manage UXI subscriptions—all within the HPE Greenlake Cloud Platform.

Migration does not affect your sensor test results, sensor configuration or how the sensors communicate to the UXI cloud.

When you request to be migrated to Greenlake Cloud Platform, the following actions will be performed:

  • Sensors in your UXI dashboard inventory will be added to your Greenlake Cloud Platform device inventory.

  • Paying subscriptions in your UXI dashboard will be added to your Greenlake Cloud Platform device subscriptions or service subscriptions.

    • Internal and trial subscriptions are not migrated. For internal users you can extend the existing trial keys you automatically get when you provision UXI on the workspace.

  • All users will be unlinked from your UXI dashboard. Once Migrated you can only login through the Greenlake Cloud Platform.

    • Note that the existing users will get an automated email during the migration stating that they have been unlinked from the dashboard.

    • Existing UXI users are not migrated to the Greenlake Cloud Platform. It is recommended to download a copy of your users from the UXI dashboard before requesting migration.

  • Your UXI SSO configuration will be deleted. SSO will need to be configured again in the Greenlake Cloud Platform.

Each UXI dashboard can only be linked to one GreenLake Cloud Platform workspace. If you already have a UXI dashboard and have created a new one on the GreenLake Cloud Platform, the configurations cannot be combined.

If you use Aruba Central Cloud, you will want to make sure UXI and Central are on the same Greenlake Cloud Platform Workspace to take advantage of future integrations we may develop.

Here are the steps you need to do before requesting migration:

Step 1: Provision UXI In GLP Workspace

From your GLP Standard Enterprise Workspace home screen, navigate to ServicesCatalog and search for User Experience Insight. It is listed under the Networking category. Select the User Experience Insight application, then click Provision.

Select the region US WEST, agree to the Terms of Service, and click Deploy.

When you first provision UXI in your workspace, you will automatically be assigned 90-day trial subscriptions for sensors and agents.

The new dashboard you provision will be swapped out for the dashboard you want to migrate to the Greenlake Cloud Platform, therefore do not configure this dashboard or assign sensors after provisioning.

Note: There is only one deployment region today for UXI.

Step 2: Add Users

From your GLP workspace, navigate to Identity & Access and select Users. Ensure the users you want to access the UXI application are listed in the user table. If they are not present, you will need to add them to GLP.

You must assign users to UXI user roles. To do this, select the user of interest and click Assign Role.

In the Assign Role menu:

  • Choose for Service Manager: User Experience Insight.

  • Assign one of the following roles: Aruba UXI Administrator, Aruba UXI Read Only Unrestricted, Aruba UXI Read Only Restricted.

  • Additional Resource Restrictions: Limit User Access. Ensure this setting is toggled Off, as shown in the screenshot below. UXI does not support this setting.

Select Assign Role.

Note the following:

  • It is recommended to UXI pre-defined roles. However, you may also choose to create custom roles.

  • If you want to assign Restricted read-only users to specific sensor groups, you must still do that assignment in the UXI application. GLP is unaware of sensor hierarchy.

  • The GreenLake cloud user that provisions UXI in the workspace will automatically be added as a UXI admin user.

Step 3: (Optional) Check your Greenlake Cloud Platform Device Inventory and remove any sensors from their app assignment

The new dashboard you provisioned in Step 1 will be swapped out for the dashboard you want to migrate to the Greenlake Cloud Platform.

You likely don’t have any sensors in your Greenlake Cloud Platform device inventory, but if you had previously added sensors and configured them in the dashboard in Greenlake Cloud Platform, you must remove the UXI sensor app assignment from the sensor in the Greenlake Cloud Platform. This action unlinks the sensor from the dashboard, removing any configuration from the sensor. This way you can add this sensor to the dashboard you will be migrating.

Step 4: Gather the UXI dashboard details and the Greenlake Cloud Platform workspace details

On the dashboard you want to migrate, go to Settings -> Account. Copy your UXI Dashboard Name and UXI Dashboard UID.

On the Greenlake Cloud Platform you want to migrate the dashboard to, copy down the workspace name and workspace ID.

Step 5: Contact Support to Request the Migration

Please let our support team know you want to be migrated to the greenlake cloud platform. Provide support the following:

  • Existing UXI Dashboard Name to be migrated:

  • Existing UXI Dashboard UID to be migrated:

  • Greenlake Cloud Platform Workspace Name to be migrated to:

  • Greenlake Cloud Platform Workspace ID to be migrated to:

The support team will open a ticket, and someone on our UXI engineering team will go ahead and validate this to make sure you can be migrated and contact you with any issues before migration. If validation passes, the migration will be performed. Please allow three business days for the migration to be performed.

Final notes regarding functionality changes or differences with UXI on the Greenlake Cloud Platform

  • SSO Configuration: SSO is now configured on GreenLake, not directly within UXI. SSO configuration will not be migrated to the GreenLake Cloud Platform, so it will need to be configured again.

  • Switch Accounts: The option to switch accounts is no longer available within the UXI application. Account switching will be managed within the GreenLake Cloud.

  • UXI Onboarding App: The UXI Onboarding app for iPhone for onboarding physical sensors via Bluetooth is not yet available for GreenLake Cloud Platform dashboards. The Android onboarding app is now available.

  • Legacy Status API Beta: The legacy Status API Beta is not available on GreenLake Cloud. Currently, API requests are authenticated as users, with specific API users visible under the Teams page on your UXI dashboard. On the GreenLake Cloud Platform, user management will change, and you will manage your team members through GLP. The API authentication mechanism for applications will also change. We recommend migrating to webhooks or data push.
