6 GHz Sensors come with the ability to report more detailed information on the Wi-Fi environment, during a test cycle new metrics are added to the sensor page which help understand the context of the sensors test, the contention experienced with other devices and help clarify exactly how busy the medium was at the time of testing.

6GHz Sensor Metrics

  • Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). RSSI chart on the sensor page of 6Ghz sensors now has a drop-down that will show you the SNR measurement in decibels (dB). The SNR value is the dB scale between the difference of the RSSI and the noise floor

  • Channel utilization now has a drop down which breaks out the utilization information into three distinct measurements. Utilization of the BSSID being tested, Co-Channel utilization of other BSSIDs on the channel and non-Wi-Fi energy (Noise which can not be decoded as IEEE802.111 transmissions)

  • Client count All packets between the BSSID under test and its stations are monitored and where we see an exchange between the BSSID and a Station we count a client.

  • QBSS Information elements are displayed covering measurements from the perspective of the BSSID under test which includes Available Admission Capacity(AAC), QBSS Channel Utilization and QBSS Client Count

6GHz Wi-Fi Environment enhancements (Off band monitoring)

The Wi-Fi 6E sensor has two radios, while one radio is used to test the network as a client - the secondary radio is placed in monitor mode and listens to BSSIDs on the off bands of the SSID under test. Helping give more insight into the environment.

The sensor will monitor up to 10 BSSIDs per target SSID network configured in this way.

The Wi-Fi environment now comes with new measures on these BSSIDs including:

  1. Retry rates

  2. Traffic breakdown - showing what % of frames are management, control or data

  3. Available Admission Capacity(AAC)

  4. 802.11ax Color element information

  5. Client Count

  6. Channel utilization

These new measures now help you see how active your Wi-Fi Environment is, beyond just RSSI levels. Helping you make informed decisions about your network design, AP power levels, and balancing on bands and channels.
