User Experience Insight (UXI) is a digital experience monitoring solution that validates network health, application performance, and troubleshoots problems that affect day-to-day user experience. The UXI application is now integrated into the Greenlake Cloud Platform (GLP), offering a streamlined user experience and robust platform functionalities. With UXI on GLP, you will access your UXI dashboard, assign users, add or remove sensors, and add UXI subscriptions, all within the Greenlake Cloud Platform.

We released UXI on the Greenlake Cloud Platform today with the intention that new UXI dashboards will be created in Greenlake Cloud Platform going forward. If you cannot use the HPE GreenLake Cloud Platform and wish to create a legacy dashboard, you can only do so by request through UXI support.

For existing UXI dashboards, we are developing comprehensive tools to seamlessly migrate your sensors, subscriptions, and users to the Greenlake Cloud Platform workspace while preserving your test results and configurations. These migration tools are set to be available by late 2H CY 2024. Ultimately, our goal is to have all UXI dashboards seamlessly integrated into the Greenlake Cloud Platform by 1H 2025, giving you ample time to transition at your convenience.

Getting Started with UXI Video

The video below shows how to get started with UXI.

The directions in the guide below provide a more detailed description of each step and instructions for troubleshooting issues.

Getting started with HPE GreenLake Cloud Platform (GLP)

Before you begin with UXI, please make sure you have a Greenlake account and workspace. You can find the directions to get started with GLP here - Getting started with HPE GreenLake platform.

Please make sure the workspace is a Standard Enterprise Workspace. Other workspace types are not supported.

It's important to note that each UXI dashboard can only be associated with one Greenlake Cloud Platform workspace. If you use HPE Aruba Networking Central or plan to use it in the future, it's important to make sure UXI and Central are in the same workspace. This is critical as it will be needed for future use cases we plan to do with Aurba Central. You cannot move, split or merge the UXI application to a new workspace and keep the test results and configuration if you decide to move it later.

Getting Started with UXI on GLP

Step 1 - Provision UXI in your GLP Workspace

From your GLP Standard Enterprise Workspace home screen, navigate to Services -> Catalog and search for User Experience Insight. It is listed under the Networking category.

Select the User Experience Insight application, then click Provision.

Select the region US WEST, agree to the Terms of Service, and click Deploy.

When you first provision UXI in your workspace, you will automatically be assigned 90-day trial subscriptions for sensors and agents.

Note 1: There is only one deployment region today for UXI.

Step 2 – Add Users

From your GLP workspace, navigate to Identity & Access and select Users.

Ensure the users you want to access the UXI application are listed in the user table. If they are not present, you will need to add them to GLP.

You must assign users to UXI user roles. To do this, select the user of interest and click Assign Role.

In the Assign Role menu:

  • Choose for Service Manager: User Experience Insight

  • Assign one of the following roles: Aruba UXI Administrator, Aruba UXI Read Only Unrestricted, Aruba UXI Read Only Restricted.

  • Additional Resource Restrictions – Limit User Access: Ensure this setting is toggled off, as shown in the screenshot below. UXI does not support this setting.

Select Assign Role

Note 2: You can only use pre-defined roles with UXI. UXI does not support custom roles.

Note 3: If you want to assign Restricted read-only users to specific sensor groups, you must still do that assignment in the UXI application. GLP is unaware of sensor hierarchy.

Note 4: The Greenlake cloud user that provisions UXI in the workspace will automatically be added as a UXI admin user.

Step 3: Remove Sensors from your Existing NON-GLP UXI Dashboard

This step is only required if you are using our UXI hardware sensors. If you are using UXI Agents, you can skip this step.

If the sensor you are using has never been used on a UXI dashboard before, you can skip this step.

If the sensor you want to add to GLP appears in an existing non-GLP UXI dashboard in either the Configured or Unconfigured sensor list, you'll first need to remove it from the non-GLP UXI dashboard. This is a two-step process to unconfigure the sensor and then remove the sensor.

To remove a sensor from an existing non-GLP UXI dashboard, login to that dashboard and locate the sensor in the Settings -> Sensors and Agents page.

If the sensor is in the Configured list, select the pencil icon to edit

In the sensor configuration screen, click the trash can icon. The sensor will move to the unconfigured list.

Locate the sensor in the Unconfigured list and select the trash can icon to remove it.

In the confirmation screen, select Yes, Remove.

Step 4 – Add Devices (Optional)

This step is only required if you are using our UXI hardware sensors. If you are using UXI Agents, you can skip this step.

Before adding sensors to GLP, ensure they are not currently associated with any non-GLP UXI dashboard. See step 3 above to remove sensors from an existing non-GLP UXI dashboard.

In your GLP workspace, select Devices.

On the Inventory page, select Add Devices.

Select Device Type: Networking Devices

Add Device Details: You can upload a CSV file or specify the serial and ethernet MAC address. Use the sensor ethernet MAC address only. Do not use the Wi-Fi MAC address.

The steps for adding tags, location, and service delivery contact are optional.

On Review Add Devices, select Finish.

Note 5: Some but not all UXI sensor models UX-E4C will not work with GLP. These unsupported sensors have the Cape Networks logo on the back label and were manufactured before HPE acquired Cape Networks in 2018. Therefore, the manufacturing data is not known to HPE Greenlake.

Step 5: Assign Devices to the UXI Application

This step is only required if you are using our UXI hardware sensors. If you are using UXI Agents, you can skip this step.

Select the sensors in the GLP Device Inventory list and select action Assign to Service Manager.

Select Service Manager: User Experience Insight in the assignment menu and select region US-WEST.

The sensor-to-service assignment in GLP is equivalent to adding new sensors to a UXI dashboard, and new sensors will appear in UXI on the Sensors and Agents page in the unconfigured list. Conversely, removing the assignment in GLP will remove the sensor from a UXI dashboard. Therefore, If you unassign a sensor and assign the same sensor again, the sensor data and configuration will not be preserved, and the sensor will need to be reconfigured.

Step 6 – Add Subscriptions

When you first provision UXI, 90-day trial UXI subscriptions will automatically be applied to your GLP workspace.

If you have purchased UXI hardware sensor subscriptions, you can add your subscriptions to GLP under Devices -> Device Subscriptions. Select Add Device Subscription, enter your subscription key and select Submit. If you have purchased UXI Agent subscriptions, you can add your subscriptions to GLP under Service Subscriptions, enter your subscription key and select Submit.

On the device inventory page, you must assign subscriptions to hardware sensors.

Note 6: You can only assign UXI cloud subscriptions to UXI sensors. GLP is limited to only one subscription assignment per device. Cellular subscriptions are managed in UXI.

Therefore, UXI Agent and UXI Zebra Agent subscriptions are "service" subscriptions in GLP and will still be managed in the UXI dashboard.

Step 7 – Launch the UXI Application

At this stage, you have completed the following tasks:

  • The UXI application is provisioned in your GLP workspace

  • Any users in GLP are assigned to the UXI application

  • If applicable, your UXI hardware sensors are added as devices in GLP

  • If applicable, your UXI sensors are assigned to the UXI application in GLP

  • If applicable, your UXI sensors are assigned to a UI cloud subscription in GLP

Now that all these steps are complete, you are now ready to use UXI. In your GLP workspace, navigate to Services and Launch the UXI Application. If this is your first time using UXI, you will be presented with an onboarding wizard to guide you in your initial configuration.
